Community Emergency Response Team(CERT) is a multinational program that prepares members of the community for natural disasters.During my time as an instructor, I was able to lead a team of 30 students in order to prepare them for California's most common disasters. I was also able to collaborate with a team in order to determine the most appropriate way to instruct our students. Lastly, I was able to hone my public speaking and teaching skills to create an engaging learning environment.

The duties of a student undergraduate research assistant are to collaborate with other students for data, research literature related to the study, and to synthesize synopses of findings. In addition, learning aspectic lab technique.In this position, I have been apart of two 6 week long research experience. The first report consisted of 800 students collaborating to determine the gene responsible for chemotaxis of the C.elegans by using RNAi knowckdown. It was observed that our gene was not responsible for chemotaxis, but locomotion.The second report attempts to observe the rate of evolution in different sample sizes and different phenotypes in D.melanogaster flies, where our study determined that smaller sample sizes with a recessive phenotype undergo evolution at a faster rate.In both research projects, I have learned how to collect and organize data and synthesize official lab reports. In addition, I have learned that science is a collaborative effort between multiple disciplines.
