Curious to a fault and driven by complexity, I am passionate about the transformative power of machine learning in the world of business. This obsession has driven me to push the boundaries of technology and advanced data analytics with a specialisation in financial services and marketing. After graduating from Wits with a degree in actuarial science and statistics, I stumbled upon Andrew Ng's legendary machine learning course and this started my obsession with machine learning. Since then I consumed every course, lecture series and book I could find on machine learning to satisfy my curiosity and grow my skillset. My research interests are mainly centered on structured data with NLP and computer vision as side interests.I am fortunate to have had valuable opportunities to implement solutions including founding a machine learning department at Airvantage, an international micro-lending company. My department directly contributed to the bottom-line of the company and became core to its competitive strategy. Many organizations sit on mountains of data which is only analysed on a superficial level, if at all. This realization led me to found Elucidate (we are hiring!), a machine learning boutique firm which offers products in credit and marketing as well as consulting on data analytics and artificial intelligence solutions. What sets us apart is our concept of shared value. We align our incentives with our customers to ensure that we only get paid when our customers succeed. Our client portfolio includes banks, insurers, governments as well as start-ups. On a personal level, I love to read non-fiction books and the Economist as well as practice martial arts. Through years of Thai boxing I have learnt the value of discipline, hard work and intense focus.
