Beauty Reporter & Commerce Writer (Revelist)

New York, New York, Us

I returned to REVELIST at the sweet request of an editor to kick more butt and take more names! Every day was different but I primarily covered beauty and style news, especially topics that relate to any type of inclusivity. Additionally, it was my honor to step in as the interim head editor in charge of publishing when the head editor needed to step away on any given day. On my second leg of the Revelist tour, I am most proud of a piece I reported about Fashion Nova that involved interviews with three Black indie designers who address Fashion Nova selling knockoffs of their original designs. The piece not only includes their accounts but also an analysis of the knockoff culture that has been accepted in the fashion industry, and who suffers the most from the lack of legal protections. Additionally, I brought a wealth of knowledge for editorial commerce knowledge back to Revelist to drive revenue through coverage of brands readers connect with the most including Amazon, Fenty Beauty, Sephora, Huda Beauty, Anastasia Beverly Hills, and more!

Beauty & Style Commerce Writer - American Media

New York, Ny, Us

I pride myself on having navigated the media industry with deep intention. After dabbling in commerce content at two media companies previously, I became deeply interested in commerce content being a thriving revenue line for media companies — a real pivot from reporting the news but my passion for media began to take on a more holistic disposition. I wanted to know more about this shiny new business line that so many media companies were starting to lean further into, what the overall strategy behind it is, and how to creatively use data to create commerce content that doesn't cannibalize a media company's existing content and lose audience trust. I developed content on an extremely lean team — pitching and writing commerce content for Us Weekly's digital platform. I'm proud to report that I my strategic commerce content churned out top sellers on a weekly basis! Check out more of my contributions down below:* Kept track of and maintained relationships with the top beauty and style brands that Us Weekly readers love and regularly shop* Analyzed revenue stats to determine which brands and product types (i.e. home decor, skincare, etc…) best resonate with the Us Weekly audience* Met increased individual and team revenue goals each week* Developed skills with a diverse set of affiliate commerce programs including Skimlinks, Linkshare, CJ, Trackonomics, Monetizer, and Narrativ*Edited commerce posts for grammar, style, smart angling, and properly coded affiliate links* Identified new brands, products, and services to introduce to UsWeekly readers* Attended beauty and style events to nurture brand relationships and stay on top of current and upcoming trendsMilestones #1: Within my first month on the job, I contributed to heavy coverage of Nordstrom's Anniversary Sale on a two-writer team — we were the #1 in revenue earner for Nordstrom on Skimlinks! #Milestone #2: Us Weekly was nominated for a 2018 Skimlinks award for Best Commerce Content. Woohoo!

Beauty Reporter, Revelist.Com

New York, New York, Us

I covered the latest makeup and skincare news with a major focus on product launches, beauty deals , and YouTube creators — all contributed via articles and video content produced for YouTube, Instagram, and Facebook. My daily coverage included at least three news articles a day, visual features, and beauty/lifestyle-centric commerce content for the company's burgeoning affiliate business.Since beauty industry standards for inclusion and diversity are evolving and being redefined, I also analyzed inclusion as it pertains to beauty products, influencers and overall representation. I am so proud of all the work I've done but a highlight for me was BREAKING the news story about Ulta's former and current employees accusing the store of reselling used makeup. Many publications covered the story, but this journalism gal is proud to have hit it first and to have reported it fairly.I also covered beauty influencer Jackie Aina calling out Huda Beauty for excluding dark-skinned people on its social pages by rolling up my sleeves, doing the work and finding the supporting information. You'll find those stories in links down below. : ) Both of those stories were birthed via social media dialogue, but also included me doing what NYU trained me to do: old school reporting, baby! Thanks for reading this far down. If you have a tip about some COOL, inclusive beauty news or products — feel free to message me.Let's connect on and offline.

Aug 2017 - May 2018

Identity & Culture Reporter

New York, Us

I wrote both aggregated and original reported pieces focused on lifestyle issues including race, gender, body positivity, and LGBTQ+ topics.I am most proud of my original piece about a mother in the DMV area who is currently searching for her missing daughter. As the conversation about missing Black girls took national stage in March 2017, my subject's story pulled the public directly into a family experiencing the crisis in real-time. I prided myself on identifying stories with viral potential and finding an angle that would spark audience engagement. An example is my story on a Lyft driver who refused to drive an intoxicated female passenger home alone, then made a Twitter PSA to combat rape culture. The story was originally published on Elite Daily but later picked up by EBONY and highlighted on The Real Daytime TV talk show!Elite Daily is also where I began developing commerce content, although it wasn't labeled as such in 2017! Here, I began strategically placing affiliate links into existing published articles for seamless integration of commerce, via the Skimlinks network.
