Marques Casara is the Executive Director of Papel Social, a Brazilian organization specialized in supply chain research investigating human rights violations and environmental damage.Since 2002, he has conducted research and investigative journalism in partnership with global organizations such as the International Labor Organization (ILO), The Freedom Fund, Oxfam International, World Childhood Foundation (WCF), Humane Society International (HSI), WorldWide Fund for Nature (WWF) and Canopy Planet.Casara earned his bachelor’s degree in Journalism at the Federal University of Santa Catarina, a postgraduate degree in Communications Management at the University of São Paulo (USP) and holds a master’s degree in Communication and Semiotics from Pontifical Catholic University ofSão Paulo (PUC-SP).He has been working in partnership with the International Labor Organization (ILO) since 2017 on the development of new investigative research methods in supply chains.Initiatives led by Casara allowed the implementation of improvements in supply chains of several multinational companies as Coca-Cola, BASF, VALE, Faber Castell, BRF Foods, Nestlé, Johnson & Johnson, Bunge and others.Currently, he develops initiatives to eradicate modern slavery and child labour on the supply chain of cocoa, garment manufacturing, Brazil nuts, plaster and tobacco.In his professional career, he was awarded the main prizes of Brazilian journalism, among them the Vladimir Herzog Prize for Amnesty and Human Rights, the Esso Journalism (Technological and Ecological Scientific Information category), the Fiema for Environmental Journalism andthe Abril Journalism Award.
