Senior Software Engineer
As the founder and lead engineer at Evil Glasses (https://evilglasses.com), I have successfully channeled my passion for software engineering and game development into creating innovative and engaging digital experiences. My key accomplishments in this role include:- Inflation Buster: I designed and developed a captivating casual mobile game using the Godot video game engine. I managed the entire game development lifecycle from concept to deployment, ensuring a seamless and enjoyable user experience. The game has been successfully published on both the Apple App Store and Google Play.- Proze (proze.org): Proze is an open-source project aimed at bringing the tools of software development to the process of writing literature. I am actively developing proze, which is currently in pre-alpha.

Lob is B2B SaaS platform which automates sending physical mail via the US Postal Service. As a member of the Platform team, my focus was on enhancing the core API service, primarily built on Javascript and Node.js, to boost performance and scalability. During my tenure, my key contributions included:- Database Optimization: I planned and implemented a reindexing and vacuuming strategy for our Postgresql database to boost system efficiency and reliability, without causing any downtime.- Load Testing Automation: On my own initiative, I wrote a Python-based automation system to leverage our existing load testing using k6. This solution streamlined test execution, data parsing, and reporting processes, leading to more efficient scalability analysis and a notable increase in team productivity.- Container Orchestrator Migration: Created a Python script that automated the transition of container orchestrator configurations from Convox to Nomad. This tool expedited the migration process, ensuring accuracy and smoothness in the transition, and was used by all engineering teams in the organization when migrating their services.
Senior Software Engineer
Outreach provides a B2B SaaS sales enablement platform for its clients. This service allows salespeople to be more effective at their jobs and manage more clients. I worked on the sync team, which was responsible for two-way data transfer between Outreach and Salesforce. We also supported integration with Microsoft Dynamics. While at Outreach, I:- Implemented export/import features for Salesforce-to-Outreach field mappings in our Ruby on Rails monolith. This was something one of our largest clients had been requesting for a while. This new feature allowed clients to test and verify their integrations in a Salesforce sandbox environment before deploying to production.- After implementing the Salesforce-to-Outreach configuration export, our customers requested a feature for showing a diff between two exported configurations. The diff would allow them to quickly determine what changes would be applied when importing a new configuration into their production environment, making the validation process much smoother.- Developed a JSON schema, Go serialization/deserialization code, and documentation for data transfer between Salesforce and Outreach. This was part of a company-wide effort to decompose our Ruby on Rails monolith into multiple services.- Compiled comprehensive documentation of our existing sync configuration and delivered it to our customer support team. This document captured the nuances of how the data was copied during the sync process that could only be discovered by reading the code, and was information that some of our larger clients had requested.
Software Engineer
The purpose of the software department is to build custom solutions to support domestic and international security operations. We are building a series of applications on our internal web portal. Front end clients use Angular and back end REST APIs use Node.js. Applications are deployed as microservices on a Docker/Kubernetes platform.Built the software department from the ground up. The department started with me as the sole engineer, and I grew it into a team of five engineers, a project manager, a product manager, a QA lead, and two UX/UI designers. I wrote all screening tests, led technical group interviews, and advocated for the candidates who I thought would be good additions to the company.Mentored junior engineers. I taught them how to use our tech stack, provided feedback during code reviews, participated in pair programming, and generally tried to be a guide towards software engineering best practices. Our team had a weekly technical book club, where I used my own experience to provide real-world examples to topics that we covered.Automated the build process. I wrote a tool in Python that built our applications and deployed them to Kubernetes. Key to making this work was a series of template projects that I created to form the framework for all new applications on our platform. These templates included an Angular 6 client served with nginx, a Node REST API, a Node library for publication to npm, and a data wrapper for serializing, deserializing, and validating JSON data. The build tool initialized new projects by cloning them from one of the templates. When a project was ready to be built, the tool validated code style using a linter, transpiled TypeScript to JavaScript, built Docker containers and deployed those containers to a Kubernetes cluster. This process eliminated two common errors encountered when deploying code: "it works on my machine" and "I forgot to do that step".
Software Engineer 2
Built and supported mission control software for the Triton unmanned aerial vehicle.Refactored the code for a user interface mapping application so that it used the Model-view-viewmodel (MVVM) design pattern. This reduced coupling between the frontend and backend code. I also fixed inconsistencies in user interface components so that the the application had a consistent look and feel.Worked on the communications team to build a messaging platform that allowed different parts of the application platform to talk to each other.
Junior Software Engineer
Built an application for tracking the operational status of airfield equipment used by air traffic controllers at US Navy land-based airfields. I was the lead developer on this project, and I carried it through the entire product life cycle.Created a prototype using JavaScript and HTML for a text-to-speech application interface. I worked directly with the customer to develop this prototype during the design phase so that we could write better requirements before starting development.Managed requirements, wrote technical documentation, and supported QA.
