Wrote and voiced news stories, both short-form and longer features, for KWMU and for other subscribing public radio stations in Missouri (including KCUR, Kansas City, KSMU, Springfield, KBIA, Columbia, KRCU, Cape Girardeau) and one in Kansas (KRPS, Pittsburg). Also wrote web versions of each broadcast story for KWMU’s website, and took photographs of news events for inclusion in stories on the web. Provided live coverage of news events and government meetings via Twitter. Stories specifically covered the functions of state government (including legislative sessions, actions of the governor and state agencies, hearings and rulings of the State Supreme Court and lower courts, and miscellaneous events). Occasionally appeared as a guest on KWMU-produced talk show “St. Louis on the Air” and the “Politically Speaking” podcast. Provided live coverage from Missouri House chamber of the governor’s State of the State Address. Filed stories for National Public Radio as needed.

Anchored mid-day newscasts twice an hour Monday through Fridays. Duties included writing, editing, and voicing news stories for anchors to use during their shifts. Filled in as guest host for “The Morning Report,” WWNC’s daily news and information program weekday mornings. Covered city council and county commission meetings as needed, as well as other news events. As part-timer, filled in for Mid-day and Afternoon anchors as needed. Anchored segment during local high school football coverage.

Supervised news department of WFSU-FM and operations of the Florida Public Radio Network. This included assuring coverage of local news stories for WFSU, and stories of statewide interest for Florida Public Radio. It also included consulting regularly with news directors of other public radio stations and providing training and guidance for WFSU news department employees. Oversaw daily assignments of news stories while serving as Assignments Editor (Jan.-Sept. 2003). Wrote, edited, and anchored “Capital Report,” a weekly radio newscast of events in Florida’s capital city and across the state (aired daily when Florida Legislature was in session). Hosted and produced “Florida on the Line,” a monthly statewide talk show, featuring topics and guests of interests to Floridians. Wrote, edited, and voiced news stories, including production of long-form stories and series. Reviewed news department budget and made recommendations on expenditures. Produced and submitted stories to National Public Radio.

Wrote, edited, and voiced news stories. Reported on events and provided coverage of the Florida Legislature, Governor, State Supreme Court, hurricanes and other natural disasters, Florida State Seminoles and Jacksonville Jaguars football games. I also covered events surrounding the 2000 presidential recount from the Florida Capitol. Occasionally appeared as guest on radio talk shows for various Clear Channel-owned radio stations. Free-lance work included live-game updates for KMVP Radio, Phoenix, Arizona, Westwood One Radio Networks, post-game audio for ESPN Radio, talk show appearances for BBC Radio, London, England U.K., and BBC-Scotland Television.

Supervision of news reporters: assigned stories, beats, interviewed job candidates. Anchored morning drive newscasts, hosted local-issue talk shows, covered city and county government meetings, voiced commercials and weather updates. Provided on-the-scene coverage of Hurricane Georges, including live broadcast during the storm, warning the public before the storm’s arrival, and informing public on relief efforts in the storm’s aftermath.
