The Sky Harbor International Airport Internship has exposed me to different divisions of the airport: The Director's Office, Planning & Environmental, Operations, and Public Safety & Security. As my time progresses I plan on working in Technology to learn how Sky Harbor utilizes GIS technology, and Business & Properties. During my time in each division, I've had the opportunity to work on Federal grant application processes, create the Sky Harbor Planning Manual for large events, and be the team lead for updating the Airport Certification Manual and the Airport Emergency Plan. I plan on using the skills I learn while at Sky Harbor to contribute positively to the next path in my career.

The Arizona Geographic Information Council is committed to nurturing and mentoring young professionals in the science of mapping. I am in my second year of being mentored by a GIS professional. In my first year, I worked with data from a real estate investor who owns +500 properties. I was able to conduct site suitability analysis for future investments, analyze current properties for attributes that predicted high maintenance costs, and present options for portfolio diversification. In my 2nd year, I am working on using GIS tools to present data in more creative and engaging formats.

From my first day at Park and Recreation, I was entrusted with a high level of responsibility. My first project was to research and create a presentation on how to build parks that had playground equipment that was inclusive for all children. My second project was to research how to build splash pads that responsibly used a precious resource in the desert...water. Both projects were presented to Phoenix City Council as examples of how to enhance the Park's amenities. I was also given three projects to manage. This entailed coordinating directly with the contractor, the internal financial team and Phoenix Streets to complete the projects. I completed my internship by creating a system to track new contracts, and a database to inventory existing contracts. These systems saved Contract Specialists' research time and ensured the City of Phoenix received contractual revenue.

Phoenix Sister Cities is a non-profit organization that promotes international friendship and understanding through cultural exchange and educational opportunities. While my official title with Phoenix Sister Cities was "Assistant to the Vice-President", I was given exposure to the variety of programs and events that Sister Cities sponsors. My capstone project with Sister Cities was to research and organize survey data from each sister on smart city projects that they had instituted. Upon completion, I presented my research to the board's chairman whose goal was to create a mobile application that connected each sister and their project(s) to each other. The idea was to give the sisters access to smart city projects that other cities were undertaking, thus incorporating additional public services.
