I was responsible for recruiting and training new employees according to our company’s policy and procedure. I evaluated both new hires and employees on a monthly basis on their customer and job performance. I was also responsible for correct deliveries to store and proper stocking and pricing of merchandise. I made sure that our merchandise didn’t leave the store without being paid for. I taught new hires (HR) on how to do payroll, benefits, etc. My store inventory had to respond to my sells sheets and shortages.

I started out as a company clerk before being promoted to H.R. Assistant Manager. I worked in payroll, benefits, and recruiting departments. I was also responsible for the relocating of offshore personnel and their families.

I was hired as an unloader out of Auburn University @ Montgomery. I went by the name of Marshall Urdiales at the time. I was the first person to be hired out of my orientation class! UPS started me out as an unloader and in a few weeks I was moved over to loader. After a few months, I began to memorize zip codes from the upstairs computers. Once I was able to pass my sorter zip code tests, I was promoted to sorter. These were the best years of my life!

I stayed in the same restaurant building…just the name was changed!

I joined the U.S. Army on my 17th birthday, received my Sargent strips by my 18th birthday, and was Honorably Discharged by my 19th birthday. Responsibilities included transferring orders to and from Army Officers. I was in charge of processing new recruits on Post and into Personnel Barracks, helping to process military families to and from various posts around the world. I also processed military family benefits for loved ones as their family member served overseas. Honorable Discharge
