Quality testing and validation of the next Generation High Voltage Battery for the next Generation BEV

Drive-train Analysis (engine, transmission, hybrid powertrains) for current production vehicles and pre-release vehicles. Main focus is to verify that the engine and drivetrain components operate under all possible conditions in the correct manner. -engine start-idle roughness-engine performance under load-electric motor functionChecking of Hybrid drivetrain function under different driving conditions to ensure proper function.

During this program I experienced various aspects associated with the manufacturing of BMW X vehicles at Plant Spartanburg. Assignment 1: Supplier Quality - During this assignment I worked on a daily basis:- evaluate delivered parts from the supplier- verify that they were built to specification. - trips to the supplier to check their processes and internal quality checks. - transfer the tooling knowledge and lessons learned from the old supplier to the new supplier. Assignment 2: Electrical Testing - - monitoring the electrical tests that are performed on a vehicle while going through the production process.- process improvement for vehicle electrical checks

During my Masters process, I also performed research on such topics as:- Connected vehicle to the power grid. Opportunities for Utility company to use vehicles as energy buffers- Hybrid and Electric vehicle charging strategies. For hybrid vehicles this involved use of on-board energy sources, i.e. Combustion engine. For EV's it considered charge amperage's, battery temperature, and battery inefficiencies. - Wireless energy transfer for HEV's and BEV's. Topics included - different vehicle simulations for energy needed during EPA drive cycles - Air gap of charging plates and vehicle for various inefficiencies for different power levels

Working primarily on the 17 Street canal project installing the new canal pumps and hydraulic lines for operation.

My job while at Denso Manufacturing was to monitor different assembly line processes and make improvements or work on daily line problems that were causing the production process efficiency to fall. Daily tasks involved:- checking the cycle times on all machines to verify that they were operating correctly and to full potential.- finding the root cause of the inefficient process - working with camera monitoring systems- laser gauges, force gauges-electrical checks for finished parts. Specific projects involved adding laser gauge verification systems to some machines to ensure that the part is placed properly in an assembly jig prior to a process step being performed. Tolerances were a major factor when working with wires that are only 0.5 mm thick In addition, many machines had constant updating of assembly jigs with new CAD files that must be verified with parts in process and new designs. New parts had to be ordered and requested for machining at the in-house machine shop.
