Met with students to identify misunderstandings of course material and clarified the academic language using real world examples relevant to the students’ life.

Guided the long and short term strategic planning of the Association. By communicating with students, was able to understand what they were looking for in terms of service and representation by the Students’ Association. Made plans to expand the level of service offered by the Association in an affordable way without raising fees paid by students by working with College administration to find partnerships that would benefit all stakeholders.Responded to policy changes, at both the government and the College level, by carefully reading the proposed changes and recommending improvements that would enhance the quality of education of students at the College. Communicated the effects of new policy to students and ensured that all concerns were identified and any negative impact was met with proposed amendments Establish relationships with students and College departments. Met with stakeholders on a regular basis to communicate the work being done by the Students’ Association. Met with College departments to find areas where the College and the Students’ Association could work together to deliver higher quality services and education to students. This included working with athletics to find new ways to communicate with students and with the bookstore to find the most cost effective method of supplying books and school supplies to students.As the official spokesperson of the Students’ Association and the primary contact for media relations, developed strategic communications to ensure that the media was aware of Students’ Association activities, government advocacy demonstrations, and policy responses.Chaired the Executive Committee of the Students’ Association Council. Ensured that all members of the Executive were accountable to the Council by attending meetings and reporting back on progress to Council. Retained the confidence of the Council by remaining transparent and accountable for activities.

Became extremely familiar with reading and drafting policy while sitting on the Academic Policy Committee and the Academic Council. All new policies relating to the academic aspect of the post-secondary institution were debated and passed through each body. The effects of the policy were thoroughly discussed and amendments were proposed. Met often with students to discuss the post-secondary experience and how education at the College could be improved. Advocated for positive changes to College policies to improve the level of education the College delivered. This included explicitly defining grading policies so students and faculty could better understand outcomes, defining academic dishonesty and the proper measures to prove and punish dishonesty, and adjusting the add and withdrawal schedule of classes to allow students greater choice in the courses they took. Effectively communicated the impact of policies to students, faculty, and administration so that all were aware of the effect to the College community. Ensured policy maximized the positive effects and mitigated any negative effects for students.Performed as a team member of the Executive Committee and ensured that I was always accountable to the Students’ Association Council. Received overall direction from the Council and reported back on progress.
