Marshall Cherry has dedicated over three decades of service to Roanoke Cooperative, located in northeastern North Carolina. Since December 2021, he has held the position of President and CEO, following his role as Chief Operating Officer from 2014. Throughout his tenure at Roanoke Cooperative, Marshall has gained extensive experience in various fields, including customer relations management, communications/public relations, information technology, organizational development, non-profit management, and economic development.As Roanoke's Chief Executive, Marshall is spearheading the ambitious strategic plan called "Vision 2025." This plan encompasses advancing equitable energy efficiency financing, promoting the growth of electric vehicle transportation, encouraging member-owners' involvement in smart energy device deployment, and completing the build-out of a regional broadband network. During his tenure as Chief Operating Officer, Roanoke Cooperative Electric was inducted into the Palladium Group's Hall of Fame for Executing Strategy, highlighting Marshall's exceptional leadership in corporate strategy.Beyond his role at Roanoke Cooperative, Marshall has been actively involved in various community and professional organizations. He previously served as the board chair of the Carolina Small Business Development Fund, a statewide Community Development Financial Institution. In 2018, Governor Roy Cooper appointed Marshall to the state's Education and Workforce Innovation Commission, showcasing his commitment to education and workforce development. Additionally, he has contributed to the Duke Energy North Carolina State President's Advisory Council and currently serves as a board member of Pioneer Utility Resources and myFutureNC.Marshall earned a B.S. in Business Administration from Livingstone College in Salisbury, North Carolina. He further honed his skills by graduating from two prominent economic development leadership programs in the state: North Carolina Rural Economic Development Center's Leadership Institute and Leadership North Carolina. Prior to his successful career in the cooperative industry, Marshall served the U.S. Army Reserves for eight years, receiving an honorable discharge.Apart from his professional achievements, Marshall cherishes his role as a father of five. He, along with his wife, Cheryl, calls Winterville, NC, their home.
