Maintained daily accounting cycles, extensive bookkeeping, general journal entries, and frequent reports regarding accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll. Highlights include:• Increased organization capacity by 4% by paying bills timely.• Audited petty cash, uncovered a substantial variance, and the organization took corrective action.• Audited 2009 client payments using 6 data sources. Located un-cashed checks, duplicate payments, and large bookkeeping errors.• Constructed and implemented internal control systems to prevent check, credit card, and cash errors.• Managed payroll and called payroll in, reconciled payments, and assisted in payroll allocations.• Prepared complex accounting reports to the state by concatenating intricate financial information.

Reported to the CEOAs the sole staff accountant, exact tracking of our financial position was my duty at all times. I was responsible for precise and timely financial and managerial accounting, budgeting, financial analysis, and budget and bank reconciliations. Accomplishments include:• Supported monthly and year-end close accounting by generating and entering journal entries that allocated funds to departments, and prepared books for an outside CPA to close (an internal control).• Generated strategic accounting budgets for $68 million in potential organizational projects, programs, and client proposals, and for the organization. Budgetary progress reports were provided as needed. The organizational budget was reconciled for variances. Recommended corrective actions involved reducing voucher expenses, staff reductions, office closures, and personal negotiation with vendors.• My negotiation successes with vendors include:o $1,250,000 in deductions of predictive dialer feeso a 2 percent reduction in credit card fees,o a 37.5 percent discount from a major client, o Collecting a past due account of $7,005, and negotiating a $6,000 annual discount with the phone company. • While not negotiated, outside CPA fees reduced by 25% and audit fees by 20% due to my proactive stance on learning the organizations’ systems.• Accounted and produced more than 2,250 payroll checks and paid all associated taxes without penalty. • Through continual process improvement over 3 years, the Accounting and Admin department reduced processing time by 33% for time-sheets, general accounting, and staff reimbursements by creating more effective of ledgers, simplified paperwork, and streamlined procedures.

Organized voters to attend the Iowa Caucuses and present a motion in favor of campaign finance reform to the party platform. More than 430 voters reported back to us that they had introduced the motion upon the caucus floor. This successful grassroots campaign effort was reported in the article "Fake Left, Swing Right" in The Nation, a weekly journal of opinion, featuring analysis on politics and culture.
