Sunscreen is an emulsion, which is where two or more immiscible substances are mixed together to form a stable composition. In order to keep the mixture stabilized an emulsifier must be present to prevent separation. With the assistance and guidance of the College of Engineering and College of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, I was able to conduct a research project to determine the effect of emulsifiers on sunscreen performance.
