I wake up every morning eager to equip parents and church mentors worldwide to transmit faith to the next generation!My career has been marked by starting and leading new and exciting initiatives. This includes rallying people around the vision, organizing and equipping them, and together creating program resources and products, along with systems and structures to deliver on the purpose of the program or organization. Becoming a spark to start new things and build a fire, so to speak, that lights people's way started early in my career when the Assemblies of God World Missions (AGWM) called on me to create the Spanish Royal Rangers program resources for the Latin America Caribbean region in the early 1990s.Later my wife and I moved to Costa Rica as AGWM missionaries to further develop this emerging ministry, called Royal Rangers in Latin America Caribbean (1993). Not only were our children born there, we also co-founded Camp Summit with fellow missionaries and key Costa Rican stakeholders (1996). Camp Summit is an 80-acre center in the tropics to impact the lives of men and boys. Since its inception, the center has also become a launch point for support and outreach to the indigenous people, called the Bribri, as well as a training center to equip lay persons and clergy to reach children and teens. Additionally, we co-founded with Costa Rican ministers, Hombres de Honor, a men's ministry program widely used in Central America, Mexico, and the Caribbean (1999).It was then AGWM asked me to replicate the growth we had enjoyed with Royal Rangers in Latin America Caribbean on a global scale, giving birth to Royal Rangers International (2002). Today I direct this ministry with a devoted team of missionaries. Together we support five international-regional teams, each tasked to establish Royal Rangers in more and more nations, to strengthen existing nations, and to offer member nations the service and support they need to flourish.For an 8-year season (early 2007 - late 2014) I also directed Royal Rangers USA. We developed world class resources for men to mentor boys in small group settings, including a book I authored, called "A Guy's Journey to Manhood" and a quality improvement program I wrote, called "The Johnnie Barnes Excellence in Leadership and Ministry Initiative."In sum, I love getting up every morning to facilitate the success of our leaders around the world: So they can spiritually mentor children and teens, teach them valuable life skills, and shape their leadership ability to influence their family, faith, and marketplace.
