If public school walls could speak they would tell you that they’ve seen thousands of students, hundreds of teachers and many administrators. If public school walls could speak they would tell you that each scholar was unique. If public school walls could speak they would be able to tell you about scholars who have excelled and gone on to do great things and about the scholars who are still pushing to move forward. When the public school walls talk, advocates listen. When the public school walls spoke, I responded.My name is Marshida Harris. I am a graduate of St. Louis Public Schools and a 2015 graduate of the University of Missouri. Over the past 3 years I have worked in Youth Development, Leadership & Advocacy and I have continuously asked myself 4 questions.1. Why are the public, zone and/or neighborhood schools different than the private schools in certain neighborhoods and how does this affect the school to prison pipeline?2. How can we make education truly equal and build an effective education reform program that brings all scholars to their appropriate reading levels and creates equal opportunities?3. How do we help scholars and families break-free of generational bondage due to use or abuse of federal/government support systems such as Food Stamps, TANF Benefits, Housing Support, etc to transform families into more self-sustainable households?4. What part do I play in this change?Under the leadership of my Pastors (John & Pamela Dillon of Agape Time Ministries Inc.-City of Refuge) I have begun to realize that “I am the answer to a problem”. I am a world changer, and all of the training I have received has equipped me to do so. I am ready to change the world and continuously be developed as a leader.I want to work with you and change the world.
