Mars Mertens has in the past twenty years closely experienced the developments in online music exploitation from various perspectives.Initially (starting 2004) as the International Digital Exploitation Manager for label/distributor [Vital:PIAS] Digital.Subsequently acted as Digital Business Development advisor for the Dutch Music Copyright organisation Buma/Stemra. Next step was being involved in a startup company as Head of Business Development for fan-funding platform SellaBand. Following this he set up OurMusic.Biz, an independent Consultancy and Business Development company focused on the various aspects of the music businessHe was hired by leading ISP/Cable company Ziggo as Music Manager for the "Ziggo Muziek" subscription service and various Brand activations around the partnership with concert hall Ziggo Dome. Moving to Brussels he was Director of Operations for the Publishing arm of independent label [PIAS] Strictly Confidential, heading the admin and royalties team.Back in the Netherlands 2 other projects were taking his attention. First the management of DIY-distribution Platform of FUGA, Songflow. And simultaneously handling the music licensing for the JUKE Joint-Venture of MEDIAMARKT and TalpaRadio. After MediaMarkt closed down the JUKE On Demand platform he was hired as a parttime music rights manager for various activities of Talpa Radio and Talpa Network. Including the restart of JUKE as an audio platform with online radio/webcasting and Podcasts.Responsibilities were the radio imaging exploitation as a rightsholder, and Sync licensing for the various AV productions/commercials that were made for the several Radio Brands.In 2021 Mars returned to Buma/Stemra to join the Online Licensing Team licensing to manage various Music Services and VOD accounts.Late 2022 he joined ODMedia to further strengthen and develop the copyright exploitation on online platforms and managing the audio distribution.
