I am a child of the maligned Cuban revolution, born and raised in the Cuba that Fidel Castro corrupted.I was raised in a system that silenced freedom of speech and punished the entrepreneurial spirit.I long for my country to be free one day. Patria y Vida!My parents have been my role models. From my Dad, I learned to stand for what is right, and from my Mom to be courageous. From an early age, their encouragement helped me to persevere, their humbleness and their love gave me reasons to believe a dream can become a reality.The day I left Cuba on a boat with my Dad, I left my Mom and brother behind, not knowing if I would ever see them again. That day, I learned my first lesson about living with valor and making hard decisions.The Cuban regime had instituted boarding schools for middle and high school students, requiring children, as young as 11 years old, to work half a day, out in the agriculture fields, and spend the other half of the day in the classroom. I was one of them. Looking back, the work was brutal, and through it, we learned great lessons about work ethics and collaboration.After all, we work better together!In life, I’ve learned that-- Habits trump willpower and good habits are the best sources of might.- Planning and execution go hand in hand. - Getting great things done requires intention and action.- Everyone has a struggle, and it is good medicine to be kind to people.- When the wind blows hard - I stand strong, rooted in faith, with dogged optimism, counting on my family, and committed to moving forward.
