As a research intern in the Campbell lab, I focused on characterizing the visual system's vasculature in relation to health and disease. During my project, I had the chance to work with genetically engineered mice. I isolated their brains via dissection through craniotomy incisions; processed the tissues through Vibratome and Cryostat sectioning; stained for vessels, tight junction proteins, synapses and neurons via Immunohistochemistry and visualised the stained sections under the Confocal microscope. Furthermore, I quantified (AngioTool and ImageJ software), analysed (Prism) the created images, and presented my data to the lab team. I summarised my findings and proposed potential future directions for my project.
