Since joining the social justice movement over 10 years ago I have had the luck and privilege of working to ensure events planned to sustain the work of organizations as varied as the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force (the Task Force) and The National Hispanic Heritage Foundation realize their full potential. As one of two key staffs for the National Conference on LGBT Equality: Creating Change it has been my role, for close to 6 years to ensure all logistics for the event are in place for all areas of the conference which hosts approximately 3500 participants. In addition, I have booked talent, interviewed and helped hired consultants for service delivery, trained volunteers, and worked with hosts committees in each of the cities we have hosted the conference. As part of the team I also worked on the redesign of the 25 year old event which has resulted in 3 years of 5% continues growth. In addition, I have been afforded the opportunity to consult in many high profile events such as the Kennedy Center Honors, the Latin Grammy's and Billboard Awards to name a few. Within each event my roles have varied affording me the opportunity to learn and practice many of the jobs required to pull occasions of that magnitude. I have been a talent coordinator, ran credential coordination and been part of the show-flow team. In each of these instances I have worked to ensure the needs of communities of color, people with access needs and others are tended to. Of course, this has also included working on those issues with service providers such as airlines, hotels, land transportation, language interpreters and others.
