Without any teaching experience, I was able to step in as a long-term substitute and teach a 5th grade class for the entire year. I took on all of the regular teacher’s responsibilities of lesson planning, grading, parent conferences, teacher PD trainings, district and state testing. Then, I was offered a full-time 5th grade teaching position. After two years, COVID-19 shutdowns required that I transition to teaching remotely. In that capacity, I became very familiar with computer programs like Zoom, PowerPoint, and Microsoft Office.
