I became a Xerox Employee when the Color Printer Division of Tektronix was purchased by that company. In all other respects my job remained the same and the description of the Tektronix work below is what I did at Xerox. Also at Xerox I became much more involved in security, Sarbanes-Oxley, European personal privacy laws, disaster recovery, and more in-depth performance analysis. Ashland is a great place to live, but was a challenging place to find work in 1992 if you were in the hi-tech industry. I finally found a great job working at the college, now a university, a short bike ride from my home. This job included developing Title III funded software enhancements to the commercial Sungard Banner Academic software suite (Oracle database and Oracle Forms front end), as well as regular maintenance and upgrades to the system. Confronted with an environment which at that time only supported the Fortran programming language, our small team of three learned to be creative with just sql and sql*plus. You can do amazing things with the DECODE statement. This was also one of my most memorable experiences with requirements gone awry. Logicon contracted to deliver 20 civil rights reports to the Forest Service.
