I joined the board on the same day that the longstanding CEO and Chairman both retired.I served on the board during the hostile take-over bid from Veolia, and an attack by activist investor Elliott. We negotiated the splitting of the company, reaching a carve-out and privatization deal with a Consortium of private equity investors, and engineering a EUR 12.8 billion merger with Veolia (EUR 20.50/share final price, 36% better than original bid). Deal finalized Jan 30, 2022, and the new, smaller Suez was delisted.

Served on board of Altran - a mid-cap (EUR 3.8 bil market cap in 2020) engineering and R&D services company - that was acquired by CapGemini in 2020. When I joined the board, Altran was Euronext listed with private equity minority ownership (APAX and Altamir). During my tenure, we executed a series of strategic bolt-ons and ramped up organic growth and profitability through enhanced digitalization and a strategy of near-shoring. From 2015 to 2020, we doubled revenue (from EUR 1.7 to 3.2 bil), and grew US revenue nine-fold (from USD 100 to 900 mil), while also improving operating margin (from 9.4 to 12.7%), and doubling workforce (from 22.5k to more than 50k). In 2020, we sold the company to Cap Gemini (EUR 14.50/share, premium of 33%; more than 25% accretion of EPS in first year). Chaired Nominations and Compensation Committee and Member of Audit and Risk Committee.

Taught core MBA course, "Leadership and Corporate Accountability," which covers fiduciary duties, and explores ethical and corporate responsibility challenges faced by leaders through case studies. Created course on "Energy in the 21st Century," which surveyed a range of emerging low-carbon energy technologies and related business models. Course was nominated for Paige award, recognizing excellence in integrating environmental sustainability into business education. Also wrote several HBS teaching cases on sustainability and technological innovation in energy and environmental services.

Ipsen - a mid-cap (EUR 1.6 billion in revenue in 2016) biotechnology group specialized in botulinum toxins and neuro-endocrine oncology treatments. As member of Strategy Committee, helped to refocus product portfolio on high margin products, and to rationalize the portfolio of R&D projects and clinical studies. Conducted strategic acquisitions to round out R&D pipeline and critical expertise.

Areva (Orano since 2017) was the world-leader in nuclear energy, completely vertically integrated (from uranium mining to chemical upgrading and enrichment, fuel design and manufacturing, reactor design and construction, spent fuel recycling, decommissioning and dismantling). I was a member of the executive board, responsible for the international network of R&D centers (France, Germany, USA). I oversaw the company's full portfolio of projects (EUR 210 million budget), ranging from next generation nuclear reactors, small modular nuclear reactors, and including renewable energy projects such as development of 10 MW offshore wind turbines, and development of batteries and stationary Hydrogen fuel cells for energy storage. Served on boards of French national energy labs, and renegotiated terms of joint R&D program on GEN 4 and fusion reactors. I also managed the team of patent attorneys and the portfolio of intellectual property. Served as Director on board of Areva Med, and on the board of the Areva Foundation.

Air Liquide is a Fortune 500 company, a global leader among industrial gas companies. I was responsible for the global network of R&D centers, and for the development of new centers in Germany and China. I refocused the portfolio of R&D projects to better support the company's growth strategy and to emphasize longterm sustainability, ramping up research on next generation semi-conductors and photovoltaics, on carbon capture and sequestration, on waste to biofuels, and on Hydrogen as an energy vector. Built fully integrated international management team for R&D for the first time, instituted regular strategic scenario analyses, and better leveraged partnerships with universities and government labs to improve ROI. Strengthened governance of CAPEX expenditures for large-scale pilot plant and demonstrator projects, introduced digital tools for streamlining R&D budgeting and project management. Served as Director on boards of Air Liquide Healthcare SA, on board of SEPPIC Speciality Chemicals, and on the Air Liquide Foundation.

The OECD is an intergovernmental organization with 38 member countries, founding in 1961 to stimulate economic progress and world trade. As Consultant, then Administrator, and finally Principal Administrator in the Environment Directorate, I led multi-national teams of experts in auditing and evaluating member countries' performance in meeting the environmental commitments they made in international agreements, and in their own environmental regulations. Day to day, I managed a small team of OECD data analysts and statisticians, copy editors and analysts. During in-country missions, I led international teams of experts in carrying out the peer review. Managed high-level government contacts and fund-raising, and organized Ministerial-level review meetings at OECD headquarters (Chateau de la Muette, Paris). Published dozens of reports summarizing the findings and making recommendations to member countries, on how to improve their performance .and the return on investment (ROI).

Based in Republic of Marshall Islands for three years, helped the country establish its first ever Environmental Protection Authority. Raised money, hired and trained personnel, led development of first ever environmental protection strategy, and wrote seminal book on the natural history of this Micronesian country.
