I work in the Office of the Vice President for Research and Economic Development (OVPRED) at Georgia State University. I oversee strategic research communication for leadership, faculty and staff. I report to the Vice President for Research and Economic Development and the Associate Vice President for Research. Strategic Planning:• Provide communication expertise to leadership within five of the OVPRED support offices • Lead strategic communication planning • Project manager for recent redesign of the URSA internal website and the university’s external research websiteInternal Communication:• Manage content for the URSA website• Edit the TeamURSA bi-weekly newsletter and the monthly Georgia State University Research News newsletter • Lead planner for URSA’s quarterly staff meetings• Lead planner for URSA staff relations events • Collaborate with communicators and departmental leaders across campus• Supervise two graduate research assistants• Measure internal communication efforts External Communication:• Manage content for the university’s external research website• Collaborate with communicators from higher education institutions and research foundations• Review technical research grants and contracts funding reports to identify topics of interest to the general publicBefore joining OVPRED, I was the public relations specialist at the university's Center for Behavioral Neuroscience (CBN), a National Science Foundation Science and Technology Center, and consortium of more than 150 neuroscientists spread among six universities in the metro-Atlanta area. I reported to the center’s Director and Associate Director. I provided communication strategy consultation to the center’s leadership team, managed the CBN website, translated technical research discoveries press releases, and was editor of the center’s Synapse monthly newsletter.

I worked in the College of Sciences and Mathematics (COSAM) where I reported to the college Dean. I developed COSAM’s communication master plan, expanded the college’s print and online presence, and managed two employees. I provided communication consultation to college leadership including the Dean, Associate Dean for Research, Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, college development officers, and department chairs from biological sciences, chemistry and biochemistry, mathematics and statistics, geology and geography, and physics.Managed content and design for the college’s print publications:• Journey annual magazine• Pathways annual magazine• Spectrum annual research magazine• Parents’ Society News annual newsletter • COSAM Alumni quarterly newsletterManaged content for the following websites:• COSAM website• Donald E. I created the company’s first direct mail newsletter.
