San Fernando Valley

As a Behavioral Therapist, I providing intensive behavior intervention services to school-age children in their homes by using Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) and Discrete Trial Training (DTT) techniques. I work closely with the Case Supervisor to implement positive behavior intervention strategies to improve child's skills in behavior management, communication, emotional regulation, academics, and independent daily living skills. Data is recorded during every session.

Work closely with the Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health and the African Communities Public Health Coalition on a community project that focuses on educating the Ethiopian community on mental health and how to approach mental illnesses. Completed a 40 hour training which focused on mental health symptoms, diagnoses, prevention/intervention, treatments, counseling, and advocacy skills.

A volunteer position that enables me to see healthcare in a clinical prospective by being trained to assist the Medical Center staff at the UCLA Ronald Reagan Medical Center and Santa Monica UCLA Medical Center.

Inland Empire

J.W. Vine Summer Health Academy Intern for one month. Each week I had the opportunity to work with different health care practitioners (OB/GYN, Pediatrician, Cardiothoracic Surgeon, and ENT) within the Inland Empire area. Mondays-Thursdays were dedicated to shadowing each physician and observing their interactions with their patients and families, nurse practitioners and nurses, medical assistants, and medical office staff. Every Friday, I would present a PowerPoint presentation in front of the program directors/coordinators, multiple physicians, and the other interns. The topic would be based on something I observed during the course of the week. After each presentation, the program directors/coordinators and physicians would give constructive feedback on how to improve in public speaking and presenting skills.

-Observed the athletic medical staff, graduate students in a medical environment at the Division 1 level-Conducted Stem/Ultra Sound Tests on athletes-Learn the techniques to taping, massage, and setting up ice baths-“Hands on” experience in providing health care to the athletes-Attended practices and games-Research assignments
