Pearson / Savvas Learning - Professional Development trainer for K-12 mathematics. Worked in a Partnership role with Milwaukee Public Schools, Dolton 149 School District in S Chicago; trained in 48 of the United States. Project-based learning, challenging students to think deeper, persevere, and enjoy mathematics. Challenged teachers to teach less directly, and more by asking questions and providing good problems to students. Standards, Intervention, Discussion are considered while preparing curriculum. Working with so many different teachers in various locations in the US has taught me new ways of relationship building, coaching and mentoring others, I learned to adapt to the school district directives to support teachers and students to achieve more. Research into best practices, new technologies, current educational trends and focus areas continually change the way that I relate to others and support teachers.Math Program Coordinator 6-12; Worked on creating, writing curriculum and implementing a 4th year of mathematics District wide. New course is called "Advanced Algebra Applications" and contains four modules: Math in Financials, Math in Fine Arts, Math in Technology and Math in Health Issues. This course incorporates math skills from the second year of algebra and marries the skills to the contexts of the modules. Writing this course was a great learning experience for me, I interviewed experts in their fields and looked for applications of the math skills then created exciting course content for high school students who have not seen a great need for mathematics.
