Saving lives it what it’s all about. Marti's goal is to promote choking rescue education by making it easy and fun, and help save lives by empowering people with the skills and knowledge needed to respond to any choking emergency.The Anti Choking Trainer is described by the Journal of Emergency Medicine as, “one of the most innovative, functional and potentially lifesaving products to come onto the EMS market.” Act+Fast's hands-on training approach allows students to practice their technique until they master it, in addition to testing their skills in various choking rescue scenarios, such as self-rescue and victim rescue. Marti initially began her career as an educator, teaching English writing at Cosumnes River College in California. She later left teaching to assume the role of CFO at Act+Fast Medical, but the pull of writing was still strong and she authored the publication: Everyone Can Be a Hero, Choking Prevention and Rescue Training Curriculum. This was followed by editing the Instructional Guide for Choking Prevention and First Aid for School Age Children, written by Ted Crites, CHES, former Director of Training for the American Red Cross.Marti’s crusade was born: to educate people with the skills needed to conquer any choking emergency. But especially, as a mother herself, to prevent and treat choking emergencies in children. No child should ever choke to death. Yet at least one child dies from choking every 5 days, and more than 12,000 children are taken to an E.R. each year for choking injuries.The Everyone Can Be a Hero Curriculum is designed to teach students in grades 6-12 in choking safety guidelines, prevention tips, and the step by step instructions of the AHA's Choking Rescue Protocol. The Instructional Guide for Choking Prevention and First Aid has been translated into multiple languages, and is used by teachers, nurses, parents and caregivers worldwide to train children with the Anti Choking Trainer.
