My goal is to stimulate data-driven decision making at Leiden University by making a wide range of strategic policy information accessible and understandable for executives, strategists, and policy makers. To reach this goal I develop and and implement an agenda for the proper use of data, facilitated by a dashboarding tool.

My approach is unique as well: especially dealing with complex (or seemingly simple) topics it is impossible to produce a visual just like that. Rather, it is a step-by-step process of co-creation in which the emerging visual will act as a reference point. Of course it is nice if this leads to a good visual, but much more importantly this process will often lead to many new insights to the client! In this function I supported the secretariat to the 'Nationale Wetenschapsagenda' steering committee by participating in project teams that dealt with various aspects of the process to come to a national science agenda 2015 – 2025. Among others this led to the digital science agenda.

In this function I was responsible for large fundamental research projects on various physics disciplines that are funded 50-50 by FOM, eventually other NWO divisions, and one or more companies, named ‘Industrial Partnership Programmes’. This job encompassed stimulating public-private collaboration in general (for instance by organising meetings and workshops), getting companies interested to jointly fund research, advising researchers from academia and companies on shaping joint research programmes, organising evaluation of programme proposals and research proposals, contract drafting and negotiation, and administration & management of running research programmes (knowledge exchange, technical and financial reporting, and issues on intellectual property).

In the function of advisor Life Sciences & Health and National Contact Point (NCP) I supported a strong participation of the Dutch field of biomedical research within these programmes. In practice that meant providing information and advice to (potential) participants from research organisations and companies, providing support and advice for project proposals and developing and giving various workshops and trainings. Besides this I was responsible as a project manager for numerous analyses of the Framework participation of countries, regions, and individual organisations to provide all these levels with strategic information and advice.Furthermore, I was participating in EU-funded international projects to stimulate SME participation in the Framework Programme. Finally, National Contact Points function as liaison between researchers, government and European Commission. In this role they also support the Dutch programme committee members.
