Profile bio

About Martijn Rolloos

Currently I work at the Dutch Forensic Institute (NFI). Before that, from 2013 until 2017, I have worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the Institute of Biology Leiden (IBL) on enhancing the meiotic crossover efficiency by modulating the epigenetic traits of plants. In 2017, I obtained a grant from “The Centre of Expertise Genomics Leiden” (Generade) to start a short-term project for which I designed a novel plasmid to act as an artificial circular chromosome in plants. As a PhD candidate I worked at the department of Molecular developmental genetics at Leiden University. The research was focused on the development of new techniques to optimize the Agrobacterium mediated translocation of proteins and transfer DNA (T-DNA) to Saccharomyces cerevisiae (budding yeast). The most important themes were: optimization of the integration of T-DNA to predetermined genetic loci in the yeast genome (gene targeting) and the role of the DNA repair pathways of the host cells and the effect of epigenetic traits of the target site on the transformation efficiency. Specialties: molecular biology, forensic DNA-interpretation, plantbiotechnology, synthetic biology, (expression) vector design, gene targeting, microscopy.

Listed skills include Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Life Sciences, Molecular Genetics, and 13 others.

Postdoc Molecular Developmental Genetics

Leiden

A screening was performed on plantlets transformed with a library of artificial transcription factors to retrieve plants with an enhanced growth phenotype. The ultimate goal was to analyze RNA sequencing data to elucidate which molecular pathways are of importance to biomass fixation.

Several aspects of the Agrobacterium mediated transfer of proteins and T-DNA to yeast were studied. Among other topics the influence of the yeast DNA repair mechanisms on the formation of plasmids from the incoming T-DNA. In addition to this, I worked on the development of new techniques to target the incoming T-DNA to predetermined genomic loci. The.
