Martijn Schimmer (1975) has always been involved with music, starting at an early age. At only 8 years old he started his musical career with playing percussion at Stichting Art Formation Rotterdam. After 3 years he made the switch to piano, and soon came in contact with electronic instruments. The challenges and opportunities of sound synthesis and the rise of computers opened up the world of self-creation and composing; Martijn began writing songs. From the age of 15, he played in countless pop bands, gave music lessons and worked in a music store. Communicating and advising clients about the constant developments in the music world was his passion. In the early 1990s Martijn was asked to submit music for a benefit TV broadcast. His song was chosen and sung by famous Dutch singers. This is where his interest in writing for other artists started. Martijn wrote numerous songs for successful national artists. From 2007 Martijn composed and produced all single releases for the finalists of the TV Show Popstars. In addition to his work as a talent coach, he also judged a season of this program. In 2012 Martijn submitted a couple of songs for the Dutch entry of the Eurovision Song Contest. One of his songs was sung by Kim de Boer (Finalist of The Voice).Martijn composed his first theme song for a TV program in 1995: "Peter R. de Vries - Crime reporter", an Emmy Award winning show. In 1999 he wrote the music for the drama series “Westenwind”. He composed the music for all 136 episodes of this award-winning hit series. In 1999 Martijn started his own company, Schimmer Music Productions B.V. (SMP). Set in Amsterdam in a brand-new complex with 8 state-of-the-art studios, Martijn is responsible for the music for countless (award winning) TV shows, drama series, soap operas and films. Martijn leads a team of eight dedicated audio specialists and composers with whom he works on a daily basis to compose, record and mix music for a wide variety of TV programs. In 2010 Martijn composed the theme song for the RTL 4 program The Voice, the record-breaking show airing in 180 countries and capturing more than 500 million viewers worldwide. In 2012, 2013 and 2014 he received the prestigious ASCAP Award in LA for his work on this TV Show. ASCAP CEO John LoFrumento and ASCAP founder Nancy Kuntsen (photo) presented him with the award. The music for The Voice has been known all over the world and Martijn produced it in many languages.
