Firstly, I am responsible for performing commissioning testing of BWMS on vessels worldwide to ensure they comply with performance claims and meet D-2 standards at discharge. This involves verifying that the systems are operated in accordance with regulations and guidelines, and conducting testing to ensure their effectiveness in preventing the spread of invasive species through ballast water.Secondly, I work on DHI's land-based test facility where you perform independent biological efficacy testing of BWMS for approval under IMO and US Coast Guard. This involves conducting type approval testing in a variety of challenging and natural environments to assess the effectiveness of the systems. I have experience operating different BWMS on the test facility, taking biological and chemical water samples and perform zooplankton and phytoplankton analysis in the lab to evaluate the efficacy of the systems.Overall, my role at DHI involves ensuring that BWMS are effective in preventing the spread of invasive species through ballast water, and conducting testing to ensure compliance with regulatory standards. I also play a key role in the development of new BWMS by conducting type approval testing and providing valuable insights into their performance.In addition, I am a health and safety representative and contact point for matters concerning the working environment at DHI in Denmark.

During my career at the Cawthron Institute I have worked on the following points:• Conducted detailed identification of marine invertebrate fauna, expanding, and maintaining the reference collection using ethanol as the preservative.• Successfully managed a small team of lab personnel, scheduling samples and overseeing day-to-day operations to ensure efficient and timely completion of projects.• Developed a new sub-sampling method to increase the accuracy of species numeration and wrote accompanying protocols to improve the accuracy and efficiency of sample analysis.• Spearheaded the creation of a platform for recording taxonomic knowledge, featuring detailed photos, and enabling engagement in one easily accessible digital space.• Successfully communicated research results to clients and internal stakeholders, utilizing excellent verbal and written communication skills.

As an experienced taxonomist I have conducted identification of all taxonomic groups to species level, with a focus on polychaetes, crustaceans, and echinoderms. I have worked on various levels of quality control, ensuring that all research met or exceeded the requirements of the ISO certification. I have improved lab protocols and safety measures for the use of formaldehyde, resulting in increased efficiency and safety for all lab personnel. I also collaborated with team members to ensure that research goals and timelines were met, utilizing excellent communication and teamwork skills.

As a marine biologist with expertise in the identification of marine invertebrate fauna, I have successfully completed numerous project-based assignments focused on both hard and soft-substrate samples from the North Sea and the Wadden Sea.

As a project assistant at the Fife Nature Records Centre, I processed wildlife observations reported by the public using Recorder 6 database software, contributing to the development of comprehensive records and analysis of local wildlife populations. I have set up 2 survey methods. Firstly, I developed a method for wild hyacinth populations as part of public outreach, utilizing excellent communication and project management skills to ensure effective participation from members of the community. Secondly, I developed an easy-to-use survey method that enabled people without much experience to partake and contribute to the project, contributing to the council's ability to gain critically important data on these populations.

My primary responsibility was the identification of marine invertebrate fauna samples taken from oil platforms in the North Sea. This work was part of the RECON project (Reef effects of structures in the North Sea), where I had to create a reference collection. I was also entrusted with the responsibility to supervise students with their taxonomic work. During my time working here I found a new species for the Dutch part of the North Sea. I have shared these findings in peer-reviewed scientific articles (see publication list).

As a thesis student, I played a key role in a monitoring project investigating the effects of sand nourishment on the abundance and diversity of macroinvertebrates and birds. I led and prepared benthic fieldwork alongside a team of fellow students, and was responsible for sorting, processing, and identifying marine invertebrate fauna samples in the lab. Additionally, I helped collect sediment samples, benthic samples, and counted birds during fieldwork. To analyse the data, I used linear regressions and NMDS to compare the populations of invertebrates and birds between years. The findings were presented in a detailed research report to Wageningen Marine Research.

As a research intern for the Stream Ecology Group, I focused on investigating the intra-annual variation between macroinvertebrate communities of boreal headwater streams in Oulanka National Park. My responsibilities included sorting, processing, and identifying freshwater macroinvertebrate samples using standardized methods. To analyse the data, I used PCA and NMDS to examine the variation in populations between seasons within a year. At the end of my internship, I presented my findings in a detailed research report. In addition to my research, I took advantage of the opportunity to expand my knowledge of aquatic macroinvertebrates by attending two courses focused on fieldwork and lab work.

This is an engineering company specialized in geotechnical and environmental research and advice. As a fieldwork assistant my main responsibilities included assisting with environmental research, placing and analyzing data loggers for groundwater monitoring and performing vibrations and deformation measurements in and around buildings. I also processed data for reports on groundwater monitoring projects. This was specialized work that was executed throughout the Netherlands.

At the camel dairy farm, I gained experience in animal husbandry by helping take care of the camels and ensuring their well-being. In addition, I assisted with the maintenance of the farm and participated in the construction of a new barn for the animals. During my time there, I also interacted with visitors and led tours to showcase the facilities and the camels. Through this experience, I developed strong communication and customer service skills, as well as a deep appreciation for the unique nature of camel farming.
