After my internship & extension period at NIZO food Research, I started my career at the lab of Plant Research International, department 'Identity & Genetic Diversity' (currently at the department Plant Breeding) in 1999. During my labwork time, many different marker & sequencing techniques like SSRs (silverstaining & ABI377), Sanger sequencing (ABI377 & ALFexpress), AFLP, Lightscanner (BioFire), Diversity Arrays (DArT) using MicroGrid (BioRobotics), Pyrosequencing (PSQ 96MA, Pyrosequencing AB), Licor 4300 passed by.With the developing techniques and the rise of next generation sequencing, the focus of my work shifted more to data analysis & scripting (mainly bash and python, and a bit of R)With increasing next generation sequence data, generating and selecting SNPs for marker development was performed on larger scales, using a range of bioinformatic tools.Since the introduction of a MinIon & GridION in our lab, we frequently use long reads for genome assemblies, structural variants analysis and haplotyping & phasing.
