JUB (meaning literally Youth for Exchange and Understanding) promotes peace, understanding and co-operation between people from different countries and cultures. To reach those goals, JUB organizes international trainings, mainly for youth workers. Focus areas are currently EU countries, the Balkan, the Caucasus and the Middle East. Further, JUB encourages active involvement in the society and promotes human rights. As chairman of JUB I coordinate the strategy, keep up a network of contacts, manage the board, write and supervise grant applications, motivate volunteers, work on visibility etc.

The Hague Area, Netherlands

After my internship I was asked to stay a bit longer, to work temporarily at the front desk of the party bureau. It was a busy period, because of the national elections of 12 September 2012. I received many phone calls on the elections and I welcomed guests. In many cases I could answer questions myself, in specific cases i referred them to the relevant office. I helped promoting D66 in several public events and with the preparation of party conferences.

The Hague Area, Netherlands

The Mr. Hans van Mierlo Stichting is the scientific department of the Dutch political party D66. Its aim is to develop the social-liberal signature of the party. It functions as a bridge between science and politics, for example by organizing meetings and publishing a magazine called 'Idee'. My main responsibility was to organize the annual Van Mierlo Symposium, on the New Civil Society, with key-note speaker Alexander Rinnooy Kan. To introduce the Symposium and its theme, I directed a short movie (find it below). Other responsibilities were conducting interviews for Idee and organizing two international meetings, on behalf of the European Liberal Forum and the talent programme of D66.

Netherlands Embassy Tripoli (Libya)

I was in Libya during the popular uprising against Gadaffi, which was definitely an interesting period. I learned a lot by working under pressure in such a challenging environment. Amongst other things, I contributed to news briefings, security reports and safety documents. Before the revolution I also wrote a funding proposal and I joined field visits. After the revolution I blogged for the University Paper about Libya.
