After five years as an associate at Hughes and Luce (now K&L Gates) in Dallas and Austin and twenty plus years as a partner at Jones Day in Austin, Kuwait and Dallas, I returned to SMU Dedman School of Law in 2005 to teach and serve as Dean of Students. Having taught as an adjunct at both UT Law School and SMU, I have always loved teaching. While at Jones Day, I was very involved in associate development and recruiting. I have co-authored, with Communications specialist, Barbara Miller, a book entitled The Law Firm Associate's Guide to Connecting with Your Colleagues, published by the ABA Law Practice Management Section. Its focus is practical advice to help young lawyers succeed in their practices. I plan to continue to work in the field of career coaching and development. I also enjoy working as an expert witness in areas of real estate, business law and the ethical duties of lawyers and write and speak in this field. Additionally, I am the author of a children's book, Why Alligators Don't Have Wings, and hope to publish other children's books in that series. I have adopted my dad's motto...."A good day is a day above ground." and plan to continue to give back to the profession that has given me so much. Life Is Good!July 1, 2015 I became the Assistant Dean of Graduate and International Programs at the law school. I am also a Faculty in Residence at Crum Commons on the SMU campus and serve as a Deputy Title IX Coordinator for the school. Specialties: Currently teach Real Estate Transactions, Property and Land Use Law, Business Enterprises and Higher Education Law. Also write and speak in areas of real estate, ethics, business law and career development. Expert witness in areas of attorney ethics, real estate and business law issues. Also serve as a mediator.
