"Improving Your World" is the motto I chose for Emanuel Services because it is a core value of my career. Utility services enable individuals, companies and communities to live in safety, comfort, and to build their dreams. Improvements in those services and those who provide them enhance the lives of all who are touched by them. My areas of expertise include:• Operations• Utility Planning• Environmental Compliance • EngineeringMy desire for professional improvement has shaped my 20+ years supporting municipal utilities. My experience includes primary responsibility for all aspects of the generation station's environmental compliance during my tenure at Burbank Water and Power. This included participation in the South Coast Air Quality Management District SCAQMD Rulemaking process. Most recently, I handled all facets of the day-to-day management, operation and maintenance of the Tieton Hydroelectric Project in Rimrock, WA. My desire to improve my world extended into personal development when I undertook studies in philosophy to apply myself to the deeper issues I see around me. Those studies provided a broader challenge than my career at the time, and I found studying ideas enrichening. Those studies brought humility and clarity. For example, that the most common of human experiences, self-consciousness, is a miracle beyond the grasp of science. We can watch it and mimic it, but it remains inexplicable. Every conscious person lives in and from what science cannot explained. I also saw even though we supposedly live in an age of reason; reason is used more often serve our passions than to guide them. One take-away from this is that problem solving will often depend as much on credibility and trust as it will on well-reasoned arguments and technical advancements.
