Martin has a background in clinical and research Radiation Oncology Medical Physics. He was the manager of medical physics and biomedical engineering services at the Calvary Mater Newcastle during 2002 - 2007, and has consulted on the design and operation of public radiotherapy facilities. He provides consulting services to radiotherapy providers in Australia and internationally and to medical technology developers. Martin participates regularly in state and national collaborative working parties and national initiatives in optimisation of radiotherapy services.Martin's research has spanned laboratory and theoretical radiation biology, radiation protection, computational biology, Monte Carlo modelling of radiation interactions and biological systems, biostatistics and advanced analytics, image processing, clinical data archive and analysis, clinical trials, optimisation of clinical services and health services research. This work has incorporated a network of national and international collaborations and been supported by state Cancer Councils, Cancer Australia, cancer advocacy organisations and the Australian Commonwealth's National Health and Medical Research Council.Martin has tertiary teaching qualifications and has undertaken teaching in occupational settings (particularly in radiation safety and research methods), tertiary undergraduate levels (dentistry, general physics, nuclear physics, radiation physics, medical radiation sciences, medicine) and postgraduate levels (honours, masters and doctorate levels).Martin has co-created the Australasian Centre for Quantitative Imaging (https://www.linkedin.com/company/australian-centre-for-quantitative-imaging), a hub for coordinating medical imaging analytics studies, for innovation in applications of computational uses of medical imaging, for clinical implementation of imaging analytics approaches and for industry engagement.Martin has casual interests in the future of human evolution, scepticism, the quantitative analysis and evolution of pleasure, cycling as a practical transport option, parenting children with intellectual disabilities, and potential curative or symptom-reducing treatments of trisomy 21.
