I completed my policing service in November 2022, with my last posting being as a Superintendent with Police Scotland. Since then I have established my own firm, Kilmailing Consulting Ltd.I am a regular media commentator on policing, terrorism and organised crime.I am available for assignments in areas including investigation, security matters, leadership, journalism, academia, technology, transformation and crisis management.I am fully open to negotiation on the locations, terms and length of assignments.I am a Non Executive Board Member with Disclosure Scotland, and through my firm am employed as a writer, and lecture on Criminology along with specific police related matters at a number of Universities.I hold a PhD, and have over 50 publications. My work has been covered by the BBC, the Sunday Times and Jane's Intelligence Review. I work for Policing Insight as a journalist.I had a successful policing career for over 28 years, working in uniform and detective roles. I held a number of command positions, including as Area Commander of Paisley where I led my staff in reducing serious violence by 40%. I led the introduction of Mobile Working technology to Police Scotland, a successful £30 Million project. I was deployed to SE Asia in a 'Command Mentoring' role. I worked on the delivery of the G8, London Olympics, Commonwealth Games and COP26.I was awarded 3 Commendations for Bravery during my service, and attended a Prime Minister's reception at 10 Downing Street regarding my crisis management work.I am a Member of Global Initiative against Transnational Organised Crime, Expert Fellow for Sprite+, and a regular peer reviewer and book reviewer. I have been a lecturer on many aspects of policing (including formal Detective training courses) for over 20 years, and am a regular contributor to research projects, which have included BBC output. I am a recognised international speaker on a variety of topics, including as an invitee of the UNODC, the NYPD, Calgary Police Service, ICCT - The Hague and the Global Counter Terrorism Forum.
