About my master thesis project at Aarhus Univervisey, Department of Physics and Astronomy, Denmark.My master thesis consists of the following parts.The first part is about creating a graphical user interface (GUI) for planning the setup of optical elements on an optical breadboard. This includes a user evaluation/survey.The task for the second part was to create a playful GUI for use by experts. The specific purpose was to optimise routine in a physics laboratory (Ultracold atom, many-body quantum simulation).The GUI controls class 4 lasers and high current (400 A) electromagnets in the laboratory.An intrinsic safety risk in the use of a GUI to control the laboratory was discovered by yours truly.Since my supervises had no knowledge of how to solve the problem, I took the additional task of solving the problem, not only for me, by for all coming GUI related projects in the laboratory.To counter the risk to laboratory and personal safety, I created a framework in which coming students can develop further GUIs.The theoretical part of framework distils the presented design principles into a single rule for creation of laboratory safe software. This radically reduces the time needed for introduction of Object-Oriented Programming for coming students.The software part of the framework is constituted by a number of modules that allows coming developers to adhere to the rule I distilled.Finally, while adhering to the rule and utilising the software part of the framework, I presented a complete and fully functional solution to the original task of creating a more user-friendly laboratory interface in form of a GUI.
