The main suggestion being to adapt the matrix based organisational structure into a more process orientated structure.Worked as the design engineer for the development of the solution for the high pressure, high temperature FLNG market. Gained the title of subject expert for the work carried out on the pressure retaining barrier for flexible oil and gas pipelines by building an in-depth understanding of the design, engineering, materials and manufacturing aspects. This work allowed the barrier thicknesses to be optimised which reduced materials and costs on all future projects.Worked as the design engineer for the development of solution for the high sour fields which have previously been too technologically challenging to exploit.

Siemens Energy with offices in both Hebburn and Monkton, offers products and solutions in the high-voltage field and is the UK market leader in power transmission projects for large offshore grid projects. Responsibilities include:Provide conceptual design solutions for transmission substations.Produce engineering technical specifications.Liaise with the Civils department to ensure full scope of work is covered.Ensure consistency with the Engineering Department’s procedures.Attend technical meetings with the client either site or office based to ensure visual client satisfaction.Ensure design risk assessments are in place for design solutions.Actively promote “Top+” business improvement and “Think Customer” customer care initiatives.Liaise with external design organisations ensuring technical compliance of engineering solutions.Achievements:Successfully engineered design solutions for numerous substations, ranging from interfacing small items of equipment with existing infrastructure, to entire new substations on green field sites. A member of the pilot scheme implementing a new software system called PrimTech which is primary engineering tool and database developed by Siemens as an add-on to AutoCAD 3D and leads to more efficient and better design solutions. Winner of a “Top+” continuous improvement award for the successful implementation of an overhead line tower data resource. This resulted an initial saving of £2000, plus savings on all future projects. Winner of a “Champions” award for the development of a new streamlined process for asset replacement. This included a standard suite of documentation and templates to ensure the high standard of technical drawings. This resulted in a one off saving of £250,000 as well as continued savings for future projects. -

Responsibilities include:The design and development of new hydrogen generators and zero air generators Provide conceptual design solutions for new gas generation products.Work with specialist suppliers to achieve innovative solutions and pioneering products.Work with assembly departments and shop floor operatives to ensure optimum design for lean build initiatives.Liaise with the sales and marketing department to ensure all product requirements are covered.2D and 3D Design Engineering.Ensure FMEA assessments are in place for design solutions.Actively promote “Winnovation” business improvement programmes.Promote best practice sharing with other Engineering departments within the division.Liaise with external approval organisations to ensure technical compliance of finished products.Achievements:Developed a new range of hydrogen generators that can run continuously, with the reliability of a generator system and the purity of a bottled system.Produced the conceptual design for the new Parker Hydrogen Generator. This was presented and acclaimed by the board of directors, and the design developed into a market leading product. Designed and developed an innovative new zero air product which has an optional stacking function to save valuable laboratory bench space making the product stand out against its competitors.Developed, organised and maintained a test rig to monitor and log endurance testing on new types of hydrogen fuel cells. -

Triumph currently employs around 1200 personnel worldwide, producing around 50,000 bikes per year. Responsibilities include:Working in the design team responsible for the development of 1050cc drivetrain and its interfacing with the Speed Triple, Sprint ST and Tiger motorcycles. Provide engineering support to the 955cc drivetrain motorcycles in current production with issues such as warranty claims or production processes.Work with stylists, engine consultants and test houses to achieve innovative solutions and reliable products.Work with assembly departments and shop floor operatives to ensure optimum design for lean build initiatives as well as adopting and working with 5C principles.3D Design Engineering.Promote best practice sharing with other drivetrain and chassis teams.Attend motorcycle shows and events as technical advisor.Achievements:Successfully designed the exhaust system of the 1050cc engine in order to meet the Euro 2 emissions targets.Overcame a design and production issue with the Sprint ST which was getting negative press coverage due to a heavy clutch lever.Produced a 1-off special Speed Triple motorcycle for the specific use in stunt shows. This was then presented and handed over to the Triumph sponsored stuntman, Kevin Carmichael. -
