I have worked in all kinds of sectors in my career. Started off as an apprentice radar mechanician in the South African Air force. After my apprenticeship I realized this was not for me so I rebooted my career and started at the bottom again as apprentice Instrument Technician on the Gold mines in South Africa. As part of my apprenticeship I worked on Gold Processing plants, Underground on the mine, Acid production plant, Floatation plant and the mining security technical sector. In 1996 I moved to the offshore diamond mining industry as Instrument Tech on the ships. Did 7 years offshore before moving onshore as fleet technical support engineer and later moved over to Projects where I was lead engineer for two multi-million dollar vessel upgrades.After some projects I was given my own projects as Project Manager with my own multi discipline team and we successfully completed a few projects. In 2008 I moved offshore again but this time to oil and gas joining Transocean as Chief ET on the 5th generation deep sea drill ship Deepwater Frontier. In 2013 I picked up a shoulder injury which required reconstructive surgery and thus rendered me medically unfit to go back to the rig. I had no choice but to resign from Transocean and after unsuccessfully looking for work for 5 months decided to start my own small business. Thus Protolink3d was born and this is where I am currently. We do laser cutting and 3d printing as well as 3d CAD modeling and product design.
