As the legal successor to IHM Scotland, The Scottish Institute is an independent, membership-owned, non-profit company working to improve the leadership of health and care in Scotland.Our vision is to improve the health and wellbeing of the people of Scotland by supporting, enabling, and encouraging the highest standards of leadership and management of health and social care services in Scotland. Our mission describes how we will achieve this:• by developing a strong professional network which supports managers at all levels with their professional and personal development, through formal education and training opportunities and agreed CPD standards;• with informal opportunities for networking, comradeship and peer support out with the normal day to day employer hierarchies and by bringing people together through events and networks to discuss and learn from evidence from Scotland, the wider UK and across the world;• by developing a modern code of conduct for managers in health and social care which promotes the best practice in management necessary for the maintenance of high standards of professional conduct and competence and which champions leadership and maintains the resilience of practitioners, underpinned by our values;• by promoting a strong, collaborative and positive approach to the formulation of health and care policy and the implementation of the practice necessary to improve the health and care of the people of Scotland;• by developing a programme of research, policy analysis and publications, reflecting the complex environment and public health challenges within which health and social care managers require to operate today.

While respecting its roots, SIHM will modernise its approach through greater engagement with members than ever before and by drawing upon their ideas, experience and wisdom to create the future and, increasingly, to influence policy through building a reputation for excellence through research and the publication of ‘think pieces’.
