I am a multi-disciplinary scientist with a strong research background and experience in commercializing new technologies, R&D management, business development, new product development and sales. I thrive in an entrepreneurial environment, am inspired by advancing new technologies and scientific capabilities, and excel at bridging the communication gap between scientific and business audiences. My education includes a BSc and MSc in physics, a PhD in computational biochemistry and 4 post-doctoral fellowships in experimental biophysics. I also completed a mini-MBA at the Schulich School of Business at York University. After my time in academia I worked to commercialize advanced technologies in the nanotechnology and biotechnology sectors. Sitting on the management team in the early days at Mirexus Biotechnologies, I helped bring a novel bio-nano-material to market, winning research grants, growing sales, speaking at international trade shows and conferences, and developing a wide array of applications in the food/nutra, skin care and pharmaceutical sectors. Next, at ScopeSys I worked to commercialize another nanotechnology platform, an imaging device which adds nanofluidic and single-molecule imaging capabilities to fluorescent microscopes. My role there included instrument sales to university labs and contracting of research services to pharmaceutical companies involved in drug development. On the side, I have developed a unique form of art using nanoparticles to 'paint' microscopic landscapes, which I capture with high-resolution photography to create large format prints on canvas, glass and aluminum (example in cover photo). I also co-host a science fiction podcast called Tales From the Bridge: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/tales-from-the-bridge-all-things-sci-fi/id1570902818

Partnerships And Operations LeadScopesys Jun 2020 - Sep 2021Vancouver, British Columbia, CanadaIn this dual role in a start-up company, I was responsible developing partnerships for contract research, as well as managing company operations. On the partnerships side, this included prospecting at international conferences and trade shows, and developing relationships with pharmaceutical companies involved in RNA- and DNA-based therapeutics. The projects we developed usually involved lipid nanoparticle delivery vehicles and their interactions with ASO, mRNA and siRNA drugs or vaccines. This role included acting as an interface between the research team and pharmaceutical partners, creating the Statement of Work, NDAs/CDAs and service agreements, managing expectations and deliverables, summarizing and reporting results as well as organizing and leading meetings between ScopeSys and its partners. On the operations side I was responsible for writing grants, papers and presentations, managing the books and financial projections, hiring and recruitment, payroll, sales quotes, invoicing and SRED submissions. -
Sales Lead And Application ScientistScopesys Jan 2019 - May 2020Montreal, Canada AreaI this role I was primarily responsible for driving sales of a unique new imaging device developed and manufactured by ScopeSys, a start-up company spun out of Sabrina Leslie's research group in the physics department at McGill University. The CLiC instrument adds a nanofluidic sample chamber and single-molecule confinement, imaging and analysis capabilities to standard fluorescent microscopes. I also helped develop new pharmaceutical and biomedical applications to further enhance the capabilities of this instrument, as we expanded its use from academic to commercial laboratories. -
Director Of New Product DevelopmentMirexus Biotechnologies Inc. Sep 2017 - Sep 2018GuelphDeveloped and managed a new product development process to generate a steady stream of successful and scientifically-credible new products for a growing bio/nano-technology company. My duties and responsibilities included developing and managing a formalized (ISO) NPD process, prioritizing market-driven and science-driven product needs and opportunities, and ensuring new products can be manufactured and delivered on time. I managed a Stage-Gate process and ensured all NPD projects had well defined charters, time-driven plans and clear end goals, ensuring the appropriate involvment of sales, marketing, R&D, manufacturing & finance functions.

Sales ManagerMirexus Biotechnologies Inc. Jan 2017 - Aug 2017Guelph OnTo accelerate the revenue growth of a small start-up technology company, I was the primary customer- and industry-facing 'evangelist' for raising the profile and networking new connections to push a brand new nano/biomaterial into the personal care market. This included lead generation, giving posters and presentations at major scientific conferences in this sector, working trade shows and giving public talks, as well as customer visits throughout North America and Europe. This resulted in significant brand development through the publication of reports in trade magazines and development of local and global strategic partnerships as well as generation of early sales, building the credibility and visibility of a small, new company in a mature and competitive industry.
