My name is Martin Schuttert. Active as mountainbiker since early nineties and mechanical engineer by heart and education. After ten years as a Mechanical Engineer at Neopost I decided to move to the bike business in 2007 and switched job to Koga which was sponsor of our mountainbiketeam at that moment. At Koga I started as Product Manager and one year later I became responsible for R&D as well. In 2015 I founded TrueDNE which is active in Development & Engineering with focus on the Bike business.

Bimas bikes asked me to support them with their complete product development process. We started with an analyse what kind of brand they were and where they wanted to be positioned in the future. With this base we choose the components and determined the look and feel of the bikes and contacted several suppliers. We analysed these suppliers on several key topics and made our choice. With the choosen suppliers we started to develop our frames and carriers taking the valid norms for E-bikes into account. Part of complying to these norms was also updating the bike manuals and E-bike manuals for the current models.

Due to vacancies Babboe asked me to support them temporary with their Product Management, Product Development and Product testing/approving process. The market for Cargo bikes is rapidly growing and changing. Standardisation processes are under construction. This means in future Cargo bikes will be categorised in weight classes and depending on weight class they will have to comply to standards.Besides standards Cargo bikes also have to comply to country specific trafic rules for vehicles. Due to the wish to have trafic free city centers in the future these rules are subject to change and need extensive attention. Vehicles will be categorised in families based on maximum speed, maximum width and maximum vehicle weight. For each vehicle will be determined in which ‘area’ they are allowed. An area can be shared by vehicles from different categories.

Koga/KNWU & Rio Olympic Games 2016For Koga I made a list with all kind of improvements on their frames and KNWU complete bikes towards the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro in summer 2016. On some of the topics I worked and some were done by KNWU and Koga. Because Neopost develops but also produces their parts and mounts and packs their machines in house you are very close to the product you develop as an engineer. Direct discussion between production, assembly and service departments guarantee a functional and feasible product for the right price with a lot of attention for ergonomics and design.In several projects I was responsible to choose the right production technics to make the ideas of our Product Designer feasible. Challenge was to find the right technics and to keep cost within the budget. With one of our products, SI-68, we won an IF Design Award.
