Joined the Royal New Zealand Navy in 1989 as a Warfare Officer. Undertook postings to sea on various ships as a bridge watch keeper. Leadership roles at sea include second in Command of Navy Dive Tender, Second in Command of Fleet replenishment tanker and Commanding Officer of Naval Patrol vessel.Specialised as a Communications specialist in 2003 and have held numerous roles in Defence communications planning, procurement, policy and management. These roles included extensive overseas representation on behalf of the NZDF.Numerous staff roles also held including training, operations planning, project management, Inspector General for Joint Operations and recently as the Executive Officer to the Maritime Component Commander New Zealand.Assumed the role as Capability Integration Lead for the LOSC project in November 2016. This involved considerable up skilling and a steep learning curve to become an effective senior member of the project team.Took Command of HMNZS CANTERBURY in May 2019. As the NZDF logistics support and amphibious operations force element we are consistently working with the other 2 services and other government agencies to provide output for the government of NZ. This includes security and stability in the south west Pacific and response to natural disasters.
