Skills Village is a construction training company with a difference, were on a farm and provide a real working environment for our apprentices. Were also going through some great expansion with a strong theme of greeen skills and retrofit and moving with the industry to provide not just great training and development of knowledge, skills and behaviour but ensuring those skills are revelant and in line with the times. We also provide support to local employers and management to ensure they are aware of where the industry is going and ensuring they are aware, prepared and dailed in with both skills and capacity.

I started here as an interim manager as the campus was struggling after taking over from a training company. A lot of cultural change was needed, heavy recruitment and development of staff, increase in volume of learner numbers in both learner responsive and apprenticeship and to make significant impact in SAR grade.Within that time also changed the offer so it was more responsive to the industry, as part of that gained a particularly valuable partnership with British Gypsum for the dry lining provision, gained a partnership contract with CITB which grew in volume within the two years i was there and also made a very big impact on the quality of delivery, which was acknowledged and praised when we had our OFSTED inspection in July 2016

I set the business up from scratch doing health and safety consultancy initially, then after a period of time started to deliver training in health and safety, food safety, first aid and health and social care where we grew the business to 16 staff and pretty much cornered the market within the care and hospitality sector. In 2001 the business face some funding rule changes and we identified construction as an area on demand for good skills provision and we went through some good growth with 5 skill centres opening over a short period of time and growing funding contract and learner numbers to really healthy levels and with funding and learners numbers increasing year on year due to good quality delivery and good sound feedback from OFSTED inspections through partner inspections of our subcontract. The centers now belong to a very large and respected training company
