Martin Welp is Chair of Socioeconomics & Communication at the Eberswalde University for Sustainable Development and holds a Research Professorship for Social-ecological Transformations with Focus on Asia. He is head of the International Master Study Programme Global Change Management (M.Sc.) and member of the Centre for Econics and Ecosystem Management. Since February 2024 he is visiting professor at Lappeenranta-Lahti University of Technology (LUT) in Finland (Social Sciences). Before his current position he worked as senior researcher at the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research (PIK), Department Global Change and Social Systems. He has headed research projects and been successful in applying research funding for international research projects as well as consultancy. His research projects have focused on global (environmental) change with special attention to socio-economic dimensions and human well-being. Current research interests include participatory, system-based modelling interventions, institutional arrangements for securing ecosystem services, transformation and change management at the urban/urban nexus, as well as agroforestry systems.
