As a senior IT auditor in EY, I mainly test the design and operating effectiveness of IT general controls and IT application controls as part of the financial statement audit. In this capacity, I’m responsible for getting an understanding of the IT environment and developing and executing a risk based audit strategy that meets our audit objectives. I will prepare the audit reports on our findings and recommendations to our financial auditors and clients. In my career, I’ve also worked on many dedicated IT audit and advisory engagement (non-financial audit); e.g. SAS70 / ISAE3402 audits, BIA assessments, risk analysis, internal control and procedure descriptions, etc. I’ve done this for a broad selection of companies ranging from the Dutch Ministries, the European Commission, small private businesses, and international listed companies with a significant presence in the USA. Even after my switch to our IT Risk & Assurance department, I made sure I kept doing at least a couple of financial audits a year to maintain my skills and keep up-to-date with the latest developments in the field.Being one of EY's Global Audit Methodology (GAM) experts, I train new hires and experienced staff in the basic principles of our GAM and how IT is incorporated in it. I also participate in our annual Audit Quality Reviews (AQRs) for which I visit foreign EY offices.

I started my career within EY as a Financial Auditor in 2001. During the first years of my career I worked on numerous financial statement audit for some of our small and mid-sized clients. These clients operated in a wide range of industries (e.g. telecommunications, IT, retail, automotive and professional services).As a trainer for EY I was involved in the successful introduction of a new documentation tool (GAMx) in the Netherlands and actively promoted the use of computer aided audit techniques (CAATs) and data-analysis.Recognizing that IT is becoming more important in our audit; I transferred to our IT Risk and Assurance department in 2006.
