Experienced manager with a career spanning both operational and sales roles, in line management and as a consultant. I am now retired by remain active in an expanding portfolio of volunteer roles.Having left the news industry in 2012, I decided to make a move into the Third Sector, wanting to put my commercial experience to use for a charity or not-for-profit organisation. That ambition took me first to Tearfund and then to a very different role in the Methodist Church. I am a very adaptable individual and I enjoy new challenges.Since retiring I have focused my volunteering on the needs of refugees and asylum seekers in the UK, including teaching English for which I completed a CELTA qualification.Specialities: Strong background in strategic thinking, operations management, logistics, customer service, reporting and analysis, working by influencing others and managing teams.Highly IT-literate, expert Excel user, with strong communication skills both verbally and in writing (published author). Highlights and achievements included:- implemented changes in team structure and people to build closer dialogue with the church at large, make us more proactive in our publishing and improve flexibility in our ways of working;- steered through a new strategy for global relationships, aimed at keeping the best of existing World Church programmes while making space for new work, and reported to a global oversight committee in implementing the agreed changes;- brought our overseas programmes into much closer partnership with the work of All We Can, a related but separate charity;- held responsibility for the complete renewal of the website and development of new content areas;- created a Publishing Board to oversee a fresh approach to Methodist publishing;- supported the expansion of the Joint Public Issues Team to include three other Churches and ensured that its work was sustained during the frequent absence of a key staff member needed on other work;- personal learning during a visit to Jerusalem and the West Bank where I was fortunate to be able to meet with and hear from individuals and groups from both the Israeli and Palestinian communities. -

Tearfund works both operationally in the field in a number of countries, including Sudan and DRC, and through many local partner organisations elsewhere. The UK-based Logistics team has a brief to support both type of project. Responsibilities / challenges of the role included:• Review and simplification of Tearfund procedures for procurement, vehicle fleet management, etc;• Implementation of new reporting from the field;• Work with Oxfam and other agencies on a joint project to enhance the ability of our partners to respond to disasters in their respective countries;• Supporting team deployment in the Philippines and elsewhere, as well as managing our ongoing support for the existing operational programmes;• Creation of an intranet presence for the Finance & Logistics group. -
