Martin Buchmueller is managing director of thyssenkrupp Aerospace in China. He has overall business responsibility for China & Asia Pacific and is/was board member for several thyssenkrupp Materials group companies in China. Prior to that, Martin worked in the automotive industry for thyssenkrupp Metal Forming group in China. Business growth and setting up new locations was a key activity as well as group portfolio optimisation. The sale of the tk unit brought him to Gestamp Automotive of Spain where he was Vice President Business Development of Gestamp Asia Pacific. With his overall responsibility for tk & Gestamp Metal Forming in China, he added new greenfields, drove business success to new heights and received customer recognition awards from major OEMs like Mercedes, PSA or Ford. In his 25 years management experience in China, East & South East Asia, he worked for multinational companies in aerospace supply chain, machine manufacturing, automotive production, IT services and consumer product production. Especially the Aerospace industry added a true global perspective by collaborating with Airbus, Boeing, Raytheon, Bombardier, Safran and many more in Europe, U.S., Asia and Australia. Martin graduated with a master degree from the universities of Wuppertal, Germany and Birmingham, England. Right from the start, Martin applied his hands-on approach and learned to start-up, manage and grow business for machine equipment manufacturer 'Ipsen' in China and Germany from 1999-2006. Back in China in 2006, Martin helped as CFO Deutsche Telekom AG to set up the new T-Systems operation. Later, he used his multinational experience to merge Gedas into T-Systems' business. In 2008, Martin joined Zwilling J.A.Henckels as general manager for a kitchen ware joint venture in China but joined thyssenkrupp's automotive division soon in 2009 as general manager. Martin is a seasoned manager who always puts the team and the customer first. Proximity to the business from all parties is important everywhere, but it is a key to success in Asia. Growth strategies were on his agenda as well as connecting to customers by trying to create value and benefits for their businesses. Martin understands that integrating one's own team with customers' brings superior operational results and win-win constellations.
