About Martin Schmidt

I am a web technologies leader with extensive experience in full web-based software solutions. I specialize in PHP, MySQL, HTML/CSS/Javascript and ancillary technologies such as Git and web hosting. I am deeply interested in finding innovative solutions, especially when dealing with legacy system, and have lead initiatives to optimize and extend existing software, build new software products, utilizing custom in-house framework solutions and best practices throughout. I look at every problem from the perspective of the end-user as the client. What works? What doesn't? What would be great to have? And then again from the perspective of the developer. What would make this project as easy and quick as possible to develop and maintain? If I might have to move the entire project to another platform at some time in the future, what can I do now to make that transition nearly instantaneous? How can I abstract the software so that if I had to, I can move all or portions of the code to a different language or platform easily? Solutions for problems like these allow me to future-proof our software, and allow us to focus on the best part of the job--extending and improving the software, not merely maintaining it. I pride myself on working with my team to cultivate a culture that encourages everyone to think independently to constantly expand the group's activities, all while making the real-world application we build as amazing as possible.
