Interaction Design And User ExperienceDeutsche Bank Jun 2014 - Sep 2016London, United KingdomUsage tracking for Autobahn has been in place for several years, but only limited use was being made of this data. Working with Tableau - a market-leading data visualisation package - I developed analyses of key aspects of the system, showing how regularly users launched apps, what they searched for, and which apps were used the most. The analysis impacted product management strategy, leading to a shift in investment. I undertook an analysis of the current ranking rules for Autobahn Search and developed a mathematical scoring system to rate the effectiveness of the results. This was used to test 48 different configurations, plotting the results using data visualisation techniques in order to find the optimum settings. Negotiation management tools help Sales and Traders within the bank to communicate orders and pricing and execute trades, replacing much of the traditional voice-driven workflow. I worked to extend the tool to support Repo products, redesigning the overall layout and structure to consolidate several versions into one design and future-proof it for support of additional products in the future. -

Design ArchitectThomson Reuters Jan 2013 - Jan 2014London, United KingdomWorking alongside a large team of interaction designers and visual designers I provide a bridge between design and technology. I maintain an understanding of the varied technical challenges across the Eikon platform and help the design team to achieve their aims by targeting their efforts and presenting their work so as to align with the technology, rather than against it. I also take on specialist projects that affect the platform as a whole, or particularly require cross-domain expertise. PageExpress is an innovative content management system to allow product managers to take direct ownership of the publishing and maintenance of simple content pages. The aim was to simplify the previous process and reduce a turnaround of six weeks, to one where a page could be created in minutes. I worked on every aspect of the project, from architectural discussions, to design of the editing interface and the output components.Eikon 4.0 represents the biggest change to the product since its introduction in 2010. I worked on every aspect of the design of the core desktop, including: Concept work to envision and illustrate the basic design and workflows; Analysis to divide up the product into multiple Apps; Designing workspace and window management behaviours; Collaborating with visual designers to create and implement the visual signature; Designing the App Library. -
Head Of Interaction DesignThomson Reuters Sep 2011 - Dec 2012London, United KingdomLed the Interaction Design team within the User Experience group as we expanded from 15 to 25 people. Responsible for overseeing design work, leading product engagement and hiring new talent.Following on from the release of Eikon, the design team were charged with developing a vision for the future of the product, taking as its starting point the concept of becoming a true open platform, allowing third parties to contribute. I took a leading role in the project, which proposed changing the product model to that of an operating system; dividing the product into Apps; creating workspaces from floating windows; and introducing an App Library.Eikon 3 was the first significant enhancement to the user interface of Eikon since its launch. I redesigned the interaction of the desktop, based on principles from the Nova project, but working within the confines of a very short project. I also took responsibility for implementing a new visual signature in the container - rebuilding around 150 assets and iterating them multiple times to achieve the best possible results given the limits of the C++ implementation. -
Head Of Framework DesignThomson Reuters 2008 - Sep 2011London, United KingdomLeading a team of 4-6 in the design of the Eikon desktop and developing standards for the platform.Detailed design work for Eikon 1.0 throughout its development, providing interaction and visual designs and responding to requests from development. Helped to organise and run over 100 user tests to resolve issues and make iterative improvements to the product over the course of multiple sprints. Recognised as one of the 40 most influential people in the delivery of Eikon. As Eikon went to market, I worked on a prototype exploring the next generation of the product (Eikon Next Iteration). The design work pushed the integration of content and functionality to its logical conclusion, unifying the product into a single navigation scheme and a single container. We also explored the potential uses of autosuggest, integrating content, destinations and commands into a single system. The concept was implemented as a proof-of-concept in an agile environment and using WPF - at that time a new technology for the company. -
Lead Designer, User Experience GroupReuters Group Plc 2006 - 2008London, United KingdomProvided design leadership to the User Experience Group, setting design strategy and overseeing work across multiple projects. Contributed to multiple upgrades to Reuters flagship 3000 Xtra product across version 5.0 and 5.1. I took the lead role in designing a major upgrade to 3000 Xtra, codenamed Utah, aimed at simplifying the overall experience; integrating a powerful central search capability; integrating multiple, inconsistent web-based capabilities into a single navigational framework; providing a solution for asset sharing between an installed premium product and thin-client lower-tier product; and updating the visual design. Worked to sell these concepts to the business. This work would ultimately become a new product - Thomson Reuters Eikon. -
Usability ManagerReuters Group Plc Dec 2002 - 2006London, United KingdomUsability testing, expert reviews and interaction design for a range of products including: Reuters Desktop; Next Generation Dealing; Multimedia News Component; and Service Alerts. Played the leading role in the design and testing of a new multi-product search capability. My role included user interface design, user testing, specification and aspects of the index design. Created the static rank rules for the initial release and contributed to the redesign of the ranking mechanisms and algorithms. The search capability was first used in the release of 3000 Xtra v5.0 and led to a 40% reduction in data-related support calls.
